Azalea Middle School Bruin Girls Basketball Fall to Marshfield Late

The Azalea Middle School Bruin girls basketball team hosted a physical Marshfield team Thursday evening.

In what would become a defensive struggle to control the ball early in the first quarter, the Bruin girls would  come out of the first quarter of play with an early 4-3 lead.

However, in the second period, Marshfield and the Bruin girls would stay close with AMS holding on to a slight lead through out the quarter until the final minutes, when Marshfield hit a basket and 3-pointer to take a 9-13 lead into the half-time break.

In the third period, both teams would stay close, each hitting baskets making it 12-15 midway through the third. AMS would add another point sending both teams to the fourth period with a score of 13-15.

#4, Claire Pieper, had 4 points in the game.

Both teams traded baskets in final period, however, the AMS Bruin girls would not be able to recover from two late Marshfield runs that ended the first and final periods giving Marshfield the win.

Raina Harris, #22, beating the defense, had 2 points in the game.

Talking with head coach Kyla Siri after the game she said “Their girls fight tonight was fun to watch, but our shots just weren’t falling. This group has such high resilience and their end of game execution was precise, but it didn’t end in our favor.” she said.
