Now reaching midway through the spring sports programs, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

BHHS varsity girls softball head coach Tony Baron had the honor of choosing this weeks selection, choosing senior, #17, Abbie Deshon, leading in almost all batting statistics coming off a junior season missing softball due to injury.

Regularly starting at first base for coach Baron, Abbie currently leads the team in nearly every positive statistical category including hitting .425, 1st in league play, with 5 home runs, 1st in league play, and 40 RBI, again, 1st in league play and 5th in league play in fielding percentage.” coach Baron told the Compass.

While playing two varsity sports until injury slowed her down, Abbie also managed a 3.6 cumulative GPA in multiple college level classes including, College Literature, Health Occ/Medical Law & Ethics, Medical Terminology, Economics, and Medical Based Work Learning.

Abbie participates in the Youth United Club, TRiO, as well as volunteering in many school leadership events as well as the ‘Safe and Sober Program’. Currently, Abbie is undecided in her choice of community college selections as she hopes to continue her softball journey before transferring to a 4-year college in pursuit of a degree in criminology.

“Abbie has played on the field in several positions, and I am excited to have her back as a senior and expect great things from her in the final stretch of the season.” – head coach Tony Baron.
Congratulations Abbie, we are confident that you will continue to excel in any future endeavors you should choose to pursue.
Special thanks to corporate sponsor Barron’s Home Furnishings, who make this recognition possible through out the year.
