Bruin Boys Overpower Bandon Late

Senior right-hander, Colton Burger, #28, went 3 and two thirds innings allowing 4 hits, 6 runs with two strikeouts.

Head Coach Kieth Wallin and his #9 OSAA ranked Bruins varsity boys baseball team, now sitting on a 4-5 record in preseason non-league play, held their first home game since mid April, Thursday afternoon, hosting the 4-8 Bandon Tigers.

Senior, #7, Lincoln Rosenberg, completing the play at 1st base.

Bandon stepped into the batters box in the top of the first facing senior right-hander, #28 Colton Burger, and proceeded to jump on the Bruins early, getting runners on base and in scoring position before putting two runs on the board. The Bruin boys would set the tone of the game in their first offensive opportunity, answering the Tigers with two runs of their own to tie it at 2-2 in the bottom of the first.

Junior, Owen Austin, #7, making the catch in left field.

Burger settled in in the top of the second, keeping the Tigers off the basepaths and holding them scoreless in their half of the inning, which gave the Bruin boys an opportunity to add to the scoreboard, crossing three runs across the plate in the bottom of the second to take a three run lead after two.

Senior catcher, RJ Hendrix, #6, applying the tag a home plate.

In the top of the third, Burger stayed focused, again shutting down the Bandon offense and keeping them off the scoreboard. The Bruin boys struggled in the bottom of the third, failing to score in their half of the inning the only time in the game and take advantage adding more runs after holding the Tigers scoreless in consecutive innings.

Freshman shortstop, Tucker Delay, #25, completing the double play.

Now facing Burger the third time through their line-up, the Tiger offense found their bats filling the bags with runners and pushing four runs across the plate, making the score 5-6 to take their first lead in the game. But the Bruin boys also stood their ground, using small ball to methodically move runners around the bases, matching Bandon’s four run top of the inning with a four run inning of their own to regain a three point 9-6 lead after the fourth.

Junior, Aiden Holmes, #5, making back to first base on the pick-off attempt.

Going into the fifth, coach Wallin sent senior, #8, Sammy Brouillard to the mound who would shut the Tiger bats down and hold Bandon scoreless in the top of the fifth. The Bruin offense came together in the bottom of the fifth, putting up six runs, extending their lead to 15-6 after five innings.

Senior, #8, Sammy Brouillard, making the play at third base.

Strong defense behind Brouillard, on his way to striking out 4 and allowing no runs after three and third innings, would finish the Tigers after holding Bandon scoreless through the 5th, 6th and 7th innings, to take the 15-6 win.

Sophomore, Brody Bavaro, #21, with the hit, went 3 for 4, with one RBI.

The Bruins are on the road today, Friday, April 10th, traveling to Roseburg to challenge the 3-5, #12 OSAA ranked Umpqua Valley Monarchs with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 noon.
