Bruin Cross Country, Putting in the Work as Districts Loom

The Bruin cross-country team, led by head coach Jason Fulton, competed in the HDN League Meet #1, 5000 meter cross country event along with four other schools from the region including Arcata, Eureka, McKinleyville and Fortuna and Del Norte High Schools all represented on a warm, hazy Thursday afternoon at the Del Norte Golf Course in Crescent City.

63 boys and 22 girls from 6 school programs, started the 5,000m course at the Del Norte Golf Course, “Anytime we can have our kids compete against kids from down in the Arcata area, it is great competition and experience for our runners going into our later district track meet.”

Bruin senior, Peter Goode led the event for the majority of the first half of the boys event, finishing in 10th place in a time of 17:22, followed by junior Richard Goode in a time of 20:05, and Colby Anderson-Nelson, in 20:09.

Bruin sophomore, Joseph Freeman-Goodell

Junior, Eden VanMaren, led the way for the Bruin girls finishing with a time of 28:21, followed by sophomore Sierra Stout, finishing the course in 30:45.

“These kids have really been putting in a lot of work and really seem to enjoy being around each other,” coach Fulton said, ” and it’s a lot of fun watching this group of kids compete, running around the course encouraging their teammates”.

The Cross Country teams are scheduled to compete in McKinleyville this Wednesday, September 26th.
