High school sports programs are now well into their 2023/24 seasons, and with that, our first outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

This weeks selection, chosen by Bruin boys varsity soccer head coach, John Silveira, is senior Wyatt Harms. Harms, a two sport varsity athlete who also plays on the BHHS varsity basketball team. Harms was chosen by head coach John Silveira for the hard work and growth that has made him a crucial part of this team.

“For the last three seasons he played as a defensive center back that could compete with the toughest, fastest players in the league.” coach Silveira said. “We were able to develop our defense a bit more last year in hopes of moving him to his current center defensive mid position this season. It has been one of the best decisions we, as a team, have made this season and has contributed to our success.”

This weeks selection is another great example of excelling in all aspects of the ‘Star Student Athlete’ program. Wyatt started his own business breeding, showing and selling lambs and intends to continue scholastically in Animal Husbandry and athletically, if the right situation presents itself.

Scholastically Harms has balanced his athletic participation while carrying courses such as Marine Science, First Aid/CPR, American Government and Civics, English 3, Workplace Experience, and Weight Training.

“We were able to develop our defense a bit more last year in hopes of moving Wyatt to his current center defensive mid position this season. It has been one of the best decisions weas a team, have made this season, and has contributed to our success.” coach Silveira told the Compass. “I have been fortunate enough to watch him grow and develop as an athlete over the past years, and I couldn’t be more proud of the player and person he has become. He has a bright future ahead.”

Congratulations Wyatt, we are confident that you will continue to be successful in any future endeavor you should choose to pursue.

Special thanks to corporate sponsors Barron’s Home Furnishings and In Motion Graphics who make this recognition possible.
