Bruin Girls Building Back Momentum with Second Straight Win Over Glide

Riding the win against the South Umpqua Lady Lancers earlier in the week, Kara Miller and her 6-3 Bruins varsity girls basketball team were looking to follow up with another win Friday night, as they hosted the 1-7 Glide Lady Wildcats at Bruin Arena.

The Bruin girls established the inside immediately, pushing the Lady Wildcats back under the basket and putting up 12 at the midway point of the first period. Defensively, the Bruin girls pressured at the timeline, dropping into a 2-3 zone and running off of Glide turnovers. Senior center, Marissa Scott, #15, led the way for the Bruin girls, scoring 8 of the Bruin girls 18 points in the period.

With the Bruin girls sitting on a 18-11 lead after one period, both teams defense intensified and scoring cooled off as the Bruin girls allowed only 6 points from two Glide shooters in the period while senior forward, Ashlyn Schofield, #44, hit for 8 points, including her third 3 pointer of the half. Marissa Scott found the basket for 2 more points and the Bruin girls took a comfortable 29-17 lead into the half-time break.

In the third period, the three seniors, Scott, Schofield and point guard Rockette Marrington, #12, teamed up for 20 points in the period, led by four 3 pointers from #44, Ashlyn Schofield on her way to 13 points in the period as the Bruin girls defense shut down the Lady Wildcat offense, allowing only three Glide players to score, and holding the Lady Wildcats to just 7 points in the period.

The fourth quarter was again no friend of the Lady Wildcats, and after the Bruin girls added 20 in the third to blow the game open, the Bruin girls allowed only one Glide shooter to score in the period, shutting the Lady Wildcat offense down completely and allowing only 5 Glide points in the final period. Junior Aleah Muro, #34, hit two baskets for 4 points, sophomore Jaden Palmerin #22, also got on the scoreboard with two baskets and senior Rockette Marrington, #12, rounded out the Bruin girls scoring with a 3 pointer to route the Lady Wildcats 60-29 for their second straight win.

Senior forward, Ashlyn Scofield, #44, in the paint for 2 points, also hit seven 3 pointers.

The Bruin girls will be on the road next Wednesday, traveling to Grants Pass to challenge the3-6 North Valley Lady Knights, tipping off at 6:00pm.
