Bruin Girls Drop Two in Non-League Tune-up Monday

Coming off of a stinging loss just last Tuesday before being rained out later in the week, the Bruin girls traveled to Phoenix High School Monday, to challenge the undefeated Lakeview Lady Honkers in a non-league match-up as the regular season begins to wind down.

Senior Jordan Crosby, #11, at second base.

The Bruin girls ran into some tough pitching to start the first inning, striking out in order. Senior Maddy Taylor was in the circle for the Bruins, and the Lady Honkers jumped out early, starting their half of the inning with four walks, a single and an error, to get 5 runs across the plate to take an early lead.

Shortstop Hannah James, #5

The Bruin girls offense never really found their way in the first game, managing only 1 hit in the game and suffering 8 errors defensively. The Lady Honkers reversed those numbers, garnering 8 hits and committing only 1 error while scoring 13 runs in the first four innings of play to take the 0-13 win in the afternoons first game.

Pitcher, Maddy Taylor, #22, in the circle.

In the second game, the Bruin girls continued to struggle at the plate, managing to get one runner on the basepaths from an error, but failing to get the runner across the plate. The Bruin girls defense got the first two outs off a fly ball and an infield grounder, but allowed a Lady Honker two out rally to score two runs off of a walk and an error to take an early 0-2 lead.

Freshman Kami Koepnick, #14, at first base.

But the Bruin girls left their bats in Brookings Monday, failing to score in the second game until the top of the sixth inning. However, the Lady Honkers would score again in the second and fourth innings, adding 5 more runs off of six hits and four Bruin girls errors.

Junior Cam Crosby, #2, at third.

The Bruin girls are scheduled to finish their final two games of the series that began last Tuesday, hosting the powerful undefeated South Umpqua Lady Lancers, Wednesday afternoon, with the first pitch at 3:00pm.
