Bruin Girls Finish Season with Convincing Win, Await Pre-Season Matchups

The Bruin girls varsity basketball team and coach Schofield traveled to take on the South Umpqua Lady Lancers to finish their 2022 season.

Earlier in the season, the Bruin girls defeated the Lady Lancers by 40 points in a 50-10 blow-out, and the Bruin girls were determined to repeat that performance Friday night to close the season, focusing on defense, and holding the Lady Lancers to zero points in the first period of play. However, the Bruin girls struggled early themselves offensively with many shots rimming out and scoring only 5 points after 8:00 minutes of play.

The defensive pressure continued from the Bruin girls into the second period, allowing only 3 Lady Lancers to score all 5 South Umpqua points in the period. Offensively, the Bruin girls were led by #44 Ashlyn Schofield who dominated the key in the second period scoring 8 points off of 4 baskets, followed by Skylar Gallagher #3, and #15 Marissa Scott who each added two points as the Bruin girls put up 12 points in the period to take a commanding 17-5 lead into the locker room at the half.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Lancers warmed up offensively, and hit for 9 points in the period, but the Bruin girls wasted no time putting the game away as #11 Zoe Carlson broke out for 12 points in the period including two 3 pointers as the Bruin girls stretched their lead to 32-14 after three periods.

With one period left to play in the 2022 regular season, Zoe Carlson added 7 points to her total, leading all scorers in the game with 19 points, including four 3 pointers on the night as the Bruin girls went on to take the convincing 44-14 win to close out the 2022 season 7-3, and ready for post season play to start next week.
