Bruins and Del Norte Match-Up on the Hardwood

The Bruins Logan Holler #33 starts the game with the tip-off.

The Brookings-Harbor Bruins were at home to take on their local southern rival Del Norte Warriors on the hardwood Tuesday night.

Del Norte jumped out quick putting up 12 points in the first 4:00 minutes of the game and getting four shooters in the scorebook. The Bruins started slow and were carried in the first quarter by sophomore guard Jake Beaman #1 who hit a basket and a 3 point shot for 5 points and Andrew Burger #2 who hit two 3 pointers off the bench.

The Bruins defense stepped up in the second period and although five Del Norte players made baskets, the Bruins allowed fewer points in the second period and only sent the Warriors to the line twice in the second quarter.

But the Warriors also turned up the defense in the second period, holding the Bruins to just 10 points in the period, taking a 21-30 lead into the locker room at the half.

After half-time adjustments, the Bruins came out for the third period determined to close the gap and executed some preset plays that cut the lead to with 6 before the Warriors hit three 3 point shots and put up 17 points in the period behind 5 shooters.

The Warrior defense held the Bruins to just 7 points in the third period extending their lead to 28-47 at the end of three.

Going into the final period, the Warriors led by 19 points and were determined to keep the Bruins Logan Holler #33 from getting the Bruins back in the game. Holler relentlessly drove to the hoop, and the Warriors fouled him sending him to the line seven times. Oggie Badger hit a 3 point shot as the Bruins hit for 12 points.

The Bruins Logan Holler #33 had 11 points on the night and got to the line 7 times in the 4th period.

The Warriors hit three 3 point shots and put up 13 points in the fourth period as they extended their lead to 22 points and closing the game out with a 40-62 win.

The Bruins will be on the road to Eureka Thursday to meet up with St. Bernard’s at 7:00pm before participating in the Logger Classic Tournament in Eureka Friday and Saturday.
