Bruins Face Off with the Red Devils

The offensive juggernaut that is the Brookings-Harbor Varsity Boys soccer team walked onto the field with 19 goals under their belt on the season. Tuesday afternoon the Coquille/Myrtle Point Red Devil defense knew they had to slow the Bruins down if they were going to give their offense a chance to keep them in the game.

The Red Devils played the Bruins tough early, holding the offensively confident Brookings-Harbor team to just 3 goals in the first half.

The Bruin defense though would not allow the Red Devils to gain any momentum on the offensive side of the ball. The Red Devils would not be able to put passes together or break through the defensive fullbacks line as the Bruins would hold their trap and shorten the field compressing the Red Devils into short passing ball control game.

The Bruins would then take advantage of the compressed ball control game by physically overpowering the Red Devils and using their short game skills to run away with the game. Junior #8 Roman Worthy would race into the penalty box early in the second half and put a strong header behind the Red Devil Keeper.

The rest of the game would be played in the Red Devil half of the field, with little work for Bruin keeper Jaime Cruz.

A total of 5 other Bruin players would find the back of the net in the second half including a long direct free kick. The Red Devil keeper would cheat out of the goal just a little to far, and #13 Luke Beaman would make him pay for that mistake.

The Bruins defense would go on to record their first shut out on the season while offensively adding another 9 goals, making their season total a staggering 28 goals overall, and 20 goals in league play. The defense has only allowed 4 goals in league play and 10 goals overall.

Brookings-Harbor will roll into North Bend next Tuesday to take on a Bulldog team sitting on a 1-1-0 record with an offense that has scored 13 goals in season play themselves.
