On Saturday, April 18th, coach Jason Fulton, and the Brookings-Harbor High School track team hosted the Brookings Rotary Invitational, featuring 13 schools from all over the region, including the Arcata, Gold Beach, Coquille, Del Norte, Ferndale, Glendale, McKinleyville, Myrtle Point, North Valley, Rogue River, and St. Bernard’s Acadamy.
Under clear skies, no wind, comfortable temperatures, and otherwise perfect conditions, thirteen schools descended on SOCOMI Sports Complex at Brookings-Harbor High School to compete in 17 track and field events.
Senior, Johanna Larson, finished first in the girls High-Jump at a season best height of 4′-8″. She also competed in the in the girls 400m, finishing 2nd with a time of 1:03.70.
Sophomore, Jare Velasco-Ramos, finishing 4th in the boys Long-Jump, with a personal best leap of 19′-2.25″. Velasco-Ramos also competed in the boys 4×400 relay as well as the boys 200m, finishing 5th in a season best time of 25:35.
Freshman, Aubrey Harlan, ran in two events for the Bruin girls, including the 1500m where she finished 5th with a time of 6:37.46. She also ran in the girls 800m, finishing in 3:08.82.
Senior, Carly Sheffel, was featured in three events for the Bruin girls including finishing 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 78′-7″, 14th in the Shot-Put with at 22′-3″, and 10th in the Discus, with a throw of 69′-5″.
Sophomore, Jacob Deveraux, competed in three events Saturday, finishing third in the Triple-Jump, jumping 36′-9.5″. Deveraux also competedin the Javelin, finishing 7thwith a throw of 124′-7″ and finished 6th in the High-Jump with personal best height of 5′-4″.
Sophomore, Kaiya Evans receives the transfer from Violet Desavedo Martin, in the girls 4×100 relay, going on to finish 1st with Sequoia Merten and Ella Christensen in a time of 53.86.Evans also finished 1st in a season best time of 13.01, as well as 1st in the 200m with a time of 27:35.Violet Desavedo Martin also competed in the 200m finishing in a season best time of 30.71.
Senior,Owen Austin, out of the blocks in the 100m, finishing 12th in 12.47. Austin also ran in the 110m Hurdles, finishing 5th in season best 18.79 and competed in the 300m Hurdles, also finishing in a season best 45.71.
Senior, Morgan Ferris, competed in three events, finishing 5th in the Triple-Jump with a jump of 27′-2.75″, 9th in the Long-Jump with a leap of 12′-11.75″, and was 11th in the 400m with a time of 1:16.52.
Senior, Zander Carlson, competed in four events Saturday afternoon, finishing 4th with the Bruin Boys 4x400m relay. He also ran the 400m, finishing 10th with a personal best 59.07. Carlson also competed in two field events, finishing 15th in the Javelin with a throw of 106′-4″ and then finishing 7th in the Triple-Jump with a jump of 32′-6.5″.
Sophomore, Ella Christensen, competed in four events for the Bruin girls including finishing 1st with the girls 4×100 relay team, 3rd in the High-Jump reaching 4′-4″, third in the 200m in a time of 29.64, and finishing 5th in the 100m with a time of 14.06.
Senior, Patrick Hatch, competed in three events finishing 2nd in the Javelin with a throw of 148′-6″. 2nd in the Discus, with a toss of 133′-5″, and finishing 4th in the Shot-Put throwing 40′-11″.
Senior, Oeana Powers Schmitz, finished 1st in the girls 100m Hurdles with a personal time time of 18.23. She also finished 1st in the Pole-Vault, clearing 8′-6″, 8th in the Shot-Put, with a season best toss of 26′-10″, as well as finishing 3rd in the high jump, clearing 4′-4″.
Freshman, Austin Hatch, competed in the distance events for the Bruins, finishing 12th in the 3000m with a time of 12:47.30 and then finished 14th in the 1500m in a personal best time of 5:55.32.
The Bruin girls team walked away with 1st place overall with 126 team points, while the boys secured 94 team points to finished in a strong 3rd place overall.
