Chetco Community Rain Dance

A RAIN DANCE ON THE WILD RIVERS COAST? YOU BETCHA!

After more than two weeks of being under smoke and evacuation orders from the Chetco Bar Fire, the Rotary Club of Brookings-Harbor decided it’s time to create a Chetco Community Rain Dance.

Why? To help lift the community mood from tense and tired. What will the dance look like? Who knows: The club will be asking volunteers to create the moves.

So grab your best rain hats and join the fun! Prizes will be offered but are still being organized.

And the perfect venue is part of the free community activities on the Boardwalk at the Port of Brookings-Harbor all day Saturday. The Rotary Club Community Rain Dance will be part of the Jessie G. Fire Victims Benefit between 6 and 8 p.m.

Earlier in the day, plans on the Boardwalk include the weekly Saturday Market and an Albacore Tuna Fish Feed starting at 4 p.m. Prices for the fresh-caught tuna dinners will be $10 and $15, not including beverages.

Together, it’s all being called the Salmon Famine — a reference to the annual Slam’n Salmon Derby, which was canceled because offshore salmon fishing was canceled this year.

The Salmon Famine Fest is a project of Catalyst Seafood and Chetco Brewing Company. Proceeds and donations will all go to the Wild Rivers Community Foundation, which is organizing relief efforts. The foundation will have a booth for information and donations.

The Rotary Club will also have a booth for its annual Raining Cats and Dogs fundraiser. Raining Cats and Dogs is set for Sept. 30 at the Kite Field in the Port of Brookings-Harbor. Proceeds from the Raining Cats and Dogs event to toward the Rotary Club’s community projects.
