Coquille Too Much for Bruin Girls Thursday

Senior, Cameron Crosby, #2, had 5 digs and 1 kill in the match.

After traveling to Grants Pass to take on North Valley last Thursday, the Bruin girls varsity volleyball team was home Thursday evening to host the 9-0 Coquille Lady Red Devils.

Junior, Aleah Muro, #10, had 1 kill and 1 block on the night.

The Lady Red Devils made the trip to Brookings for the only match-up between these two team of the season, and showed up at Bruin arena ready to play, jumping out to an early lead in the first set. The Bruin girls would battle back to keep the set close, but ultimately Douglas would pull away after being tied at the mid-way point to take the set 17-25.

Senior, Ashlyn Schofield, #8, had 1 ace, 7 kills, 1 block and 4 digs in the match.

In the second set, the Bruin girls attempted to establish a power game at the net, and although the Bruin girls were able to keep the set close early, the Lady Red Devils put together consecutive points in the set and would go on to win the second set 13-25.

Junior, Annika Malmberg, #6, with the kill.

Now with a two set lead, control for the third set was close fought early as the Bruin girls were determined to regain control of the net, but the powerful Coquille front line forced Bruin girls errors in the set allowing Douglas to establish an early set lead and would go on to take an 14-25 win in the third set.

Sophomore, Madison Harris, #1, with the dig.
Freshman Ella Reneau, #3, with one of her 3 kills also had 2 digs.

As the 2022/23 season begins to come to a close, the Bruin girls will be on the road next Tuesday to Rogue River, to challenge the 1-8 Chieftains at 5:00pm.
