Crash Closes Hwy. 199 for 2 Hours and Takes Two Lives

On Friday, July 19th, just before 1:30 pm, the California Highway Patrol in Crescent City CA responded to a reported traffic crash on Hwy. 199 just north of Little Jones Creek Rd. Upon arrival, it was determined the involved a 2002 Honda motorcycle and a 2010 Ford F150 towing a utility trailer.

Both vehicles were traveling southbound on Hwy. 199, approaching Little Jones Creek Rd., with the motorcycle ahead of the Ford F150. As the motorcycle was nearing the intersection with Little Jones Creek Rd., the motorcycle pulled to the right shoulder and stopped. The driver of the Ford F150 started to pass on the left when the motorcycle tipped over to the left, towards the lane of traffic directly, and into the path of the passing Ford F150 and utility trailer.

Both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle were ejected onto the roadway and both were subsequently struck by the passing utility trailer being towed by the Ford F150.

The motorcycle driver and passenger succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hwy. 199 was completely closed for over 35 minutes due to the incident before one-way traffic control was established and continued for an additional 90 minutes.

The crash is still under investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.
