Delta Variant Doubles in Oregon in the Past Two Weeks, Vaccinations Continue to Slow

The Delta variant, identified as a ‘Variant of Concern’ by the CDC, has been identified in the United States, and in Oregon as well. The Oregon Health Authority has reported a total of 90 cases, an increase 73 cases in the state with the first two cases discovered April 11th, 2021 and the northwest counties of the state leading the way with cases according to the Oregon Health Authority.

Vaccination rates for the state slowed even further in the past week as the state sat at 67.8% vaccinated last week, and to date, now sits at 68.2% an increase of .4% in the past week. Oregon Health Authority, said Friday, July 17th, that the fully vaccinated are well protected from COVID, including the delta variant.

As of Friday, July, 24th, the state of Oregon has tested 5,624,307 individuals, an increase of 72,878 individuals in the past week and now 13,456 more than the week prior. Over 1,334,867 more people than the states 4,289,440 population have now been tested and of that, 5,244,377 have tested negative for the novel COVID-19 virus and 310,654 have tested positive. Since the pandemic began, Oregon has recorded 2,871 new cases in the past week, and 214,869 total cases. Individuals hospitalized continues to stay steady with just 140 hospitalizations statewide in the past week, and now stands at 12,113. In the past week 19 deaths were recorded statewide, and Oregonians who have unfortunately succumbed to COVID-19 has now reached 2,836 in the entire state since the pandemic began.

Curry County’s latest numbers as reported Friday July 24th, by the Oregon Health Authority, now reports testing 14,408 individuals with 13,354 negative tests, 694 total positive COVID-19 tests and after adding 3 new cases in the last week according to the latest data from the Oregon Health Authority and has recorded 755 total cases and 12 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services reported testing 15,782 individuals, with 14,228 negative results, after adding 32 new cases in the past week now reaching 1,522 total confirmed cases reported by Public Health, with 28 active cases, 0 current hospitalizations and 8 deaths.

Coos County to the north, reported testing 57,328 individuals last week with 54,595 negative results, adding 30 new cases in the past week with now 2,733 total positive cases and 39 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Josephine County has seen significant increases in recent weeks has reported testing 97,154 individuals with 92,324 negative results, 4,830 total positive test results adding 144 new cases in the past week with now 3,958 total cases of COVID-19 and now 74 deaths.

Jackson County, which includes the Medford area, with a total population of 221,290, reports testing 274,214 individuals, 52,924 more people than the counties total population, with 255,695 negative test results, 18,091 positive results, and 12,195 total cases of COVID-19 with now 151 deaths as of Friday, July 24th.
