Early Saturday Evening Fire Prompts Level 1 Evacuation Notice and Closes Hwy. 199

Just before 6:30pm early Saturday evening, July 24th, multiple agencies responded to the Redwood Highway Fire located along Highway 199 south of Selma which later prompted a level 1 evacuation notice be put in place as a precaution.

With abundant aircraft and ground resources, firefighters were able to quickly establish a strong perimeter, ultimately limiting the fire to a total of 6 acres, including numerous spot fires.

Firefighting activity prompted the closure of Highway 199 on Saturday night, however, it has since been reopened by Oregon Department of Transportation and the level 1 (BE READY) evacuation notice that was put in place by Josephine Co. Emergency Management for Wild Park Lane and Terrell Way as a precaution, has since been lifted.

The quick attack and work by multiple responding agencies including Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District, Illinois Valley Fire District, Rural Metro Fire, Grants Pass Fire Rescue, Applegate Valley Fire District, and the Jackson County Fire District, held and contained the fire to 6 acres and completed mop-up duties in less than 24 hours.
