Efforts Continue to Extinguish Fire in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park

As of Wednesday morning, August 19th, fire personnel continued to work to extinguish the canopy fire in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park first reported Monday afternoon.  

Fire continues to burn in the canopy of three coast redwood trees, and is about 1 1/2 acres. Sprinklers set up in the tree canopies poured 10,000 gallons of water on the fire.

Howland Hill Road remains closed from the west entrance near Crescent City, to Boy Scout Tree Trail. Howland Hill Road is open from the east entrance near Hiouchi, to Boy Scout Tree Trail.   For your public safety, and to respect the efforts of fire crews, please stay out of the closed section of Howland Hill Road.
