Firefighters Assist in Rescue of Predatory Bird

On Saturday evening, December 30th, Medford Fire Department received a call from the Badger Run Rehab animal rescue group saying that a hawk, called the Cooper Hawk, was trapped in a chicken-wire fenced in area on the top of the US Bank building at 131 East Main Street.

Fire crews met with Erin from Badger Run Rehab at the scene who showed firefighters the problem. Apparently, the hawk had attempted to dive into the area while hunting pigeons becoming trapped in the fenced area, and could not get out.

Erin, who had recently rescued a Coopers Hawk in the area, shared that the birds are amazing predators that are very territorial and that this may very well be the same Coopers Hawk.
