Wave Sweeps Man Out to Sea – Update 01/05/18

On Wednesday, January 3, at approximately 10:35 AM, Oregon State Troopers from the Gold Beach Worksite and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a male subject who had been swept off some rocks by waves into the Pacific Ocean near Indian Sands Trail near the city of Brookings, Oregon, off of Highway 101.

The victim has been identified as 21-year old Christopher M. Kareck by a traveling companion. Kareck is from Sparks, Nevada. The search effort, which is still underway, is expected to continue until sunset or when conditions no longer safely allow.

According to Oregon State Police officials, “The search effort, which is still underway, is expected to continue until sunset or when conditions no longer safely allow,” authorities said in a statement.

The United States Coast Guard suspended the search for 21-year old Christopher M. Kareck Wednesday night at approximately 11:15 PM. The United States Coast Guard resumed their search again Thursday morning in an effort to locate the missing Nevada man, but have not located him as of yet.
There were no other updates from authorities as of this reporting.
