Four Rescued After Capsizing on Rogue River

Early Saturday evening, May 27th, reports were received that a family of four individuals had flipped over in the Rogue River near Chinook Park, east of Grants Pass just after 5:30pm.

Multiple agencies including units from Rural Metro Fire, Grants Pass Fire Department as well as Josephine County Sheriff’s Deputies, responded immediately to the scene.

Upon arrival, first responders learned that all four occupants, 3 adults and 1 child, all without life jackets, had been thrown from their hard-sided canoe into the Rogue River current, ultimately being scattered in different spots along the river.

The Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputy provided support as a rescue boat from Grants Pass Fire’s Parkway Fire Station was launched from Chinook Park, and safely extract the occupants to shore

Again, all four occupants were all not wearing life jackets and were subsequently transported to the hospital due to exposure to the cold water temperature.
