High Wind Warning Issued for Christmas Day

The National Weather Service issued a ‘High Wind Warning’ Thursday afternoon regarding strong winds expected to impact much of Southern Oregon and Northern California during Christmas evening.

South winds of 25 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected early Christmas morning at approximately 6:00am, continuing until late afternoon to early evening Christmas Day.

The strongest wind gusts will occur west of the Cascades over higher terrain, especially the higher terrain along the South Central Oregon and Curry County coastlines into northern California. This includes the area from Cape Arago to Brookings and south past Crescent City where winds will be strongest at headlands and exposed areas.

For those traveling Christmas day, strong winds will also be observed in the Rogue Valley as well as locations near Ashland and Shasta Valley will also see winds increase as this system moves through.
