After being on the road for the past 2 match-ups in Arcata and at St. Mary’s in Medford, a different Lady Bruin team walked onto the court Thursday evening with a noticeably different demeanor. After garnering some tough wins on the road, the Lady Bruins carried some confidence back into league play.

Thursday evening the Brookings-Harbor girls volleyball team matched up against the Lady Bulldogs of Sutherlin. Perhaps the best team play of the season came to front as long sustained rally’s and determination brought the Lady Bruins to some of the closest games the home team fans have seen.

Junior middle blocker Sanoe Fanene #7 with one her 4 kills.

Again long rally’s, determined digs, and a strong presence offensively and defensively kept the Lady Bulldogs off balance in all three matches.

Defensively the Bruins were led by Mayce McCollum with 13 digs on the night followed by Sanoe Fanene who recorded 7 digs herself. Junior middle blocker Sanoe Fanene posted 3 blocks and junior Cartyr Fitzhugh also had 2 blocks as the defense at the net was strong.

Senior Mayce McCollum with one of 13 digs.

Offensively, Sanoe Fanene led Brookings-Harbor with 4 aces and 4 kills, and both seniors Lexi Pacino and Mayce McCollum recorded 3 kills each. Mayce McCollum also had 11 assists on the night.

Ultimately, after 3 close sets, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Bruins taking the win, but clearly, Coach Lorinda Shew has directed Brookings-Harbor in the right direction and continues to see improvement and increased drive in every category.

The Lady Bruins play again next Tuesday, October 2nd on the road against Cascade Christian for the second time this season at 6:30 pm.
