Big changes are forecast for northwestern California and Southwest Oregon weather. Temperatures will dive sharply from Friday to Saturday, with a 15 to 20-degree drop in high temperatures.

Medford:

This change will occur as a low-pressure system lifts across our region, not only bringing cooler temperatures, but also the first showers of the season to much of our region on Saturday. Amounts will likely be meager compared to winter storms, with locally up to a half-inch, but more like a tenth of an inch or less for the majority of our region.

Rain like this will help to slow the progress of lingering forest fires, but will likely not be enough to end the fire season just yet. Sunday is beginning to look like a drier day, and Monday may turn out that way as well, but with another system tracking just south of northern California, there is still a slight chance for showers. The rest of next week will likely see a warming trend, with another extended stretch of dry weather as high pressure takes control once again.
