Lady Bruins Varsity Volleyball Continues to Grow

Senior Mayce McCullom #4 with the dig.

Tuesday evening was the Lady Bruins Varsity volleyball teams second league match of the season after a match and two tournament pre-season.

The Lady Bruins matched up against a very strong South Umpqua Lady Lancer team boasting a 7-1 overall record. Coach Lorinda Shew’s team showed more improvement on the aspect of the game that Coach Shew has been speaking about all season long.

The Lady Bruins sustained long rally’s, played strong defense on the floor and at the net. Again it was senior Mayce McCollum leading the way with 6 kills followed up by Sanoe Fanene #7 with 5 kills keeping the Lady Bruins in the game.

Sophomore Gracie Harms #13 led scoring off her jump serve with 2 aces.

However, it was the determination of the defense that continuously challenged the strong Lady Lancers at the net, not allowing South Umpqua to simply overpower the Lady Bruins. Sanoe Fanene led Brookings-Harbor with 2 digs, but it was an impressive team effort on the floor that showed the heart of Lady Bruins who continue to fight for every point.

The Lady Bruins will be on the road for their next match up against the 1-1 Douglas High School Lady Trojans tonight, September 20th, at 6:30pm.
