Lane County Sheriff’s Office Searching for Suspect After Stabbing Near Oregon Dunes

Thursday afternoon, November 25th, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office reported that Deputies and the Oregon State Police were searching the area of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area south of Florence for a suspect in a stabbing assault that occurred earlier in the afternoon.  

The suspect, described as a 30-40 year old white male was last observed wearing a brown or black jacket, headed into the dunes on foot.  

Late Friday evening the Lane County Sheriff’s Office had identified 40 year old Robert Gavin Bowers as a person of interest in the stabbing assault in the South Jetty area south of Florence, stating that Bowers is likely homeless, could be armed, most commonly travels by foot, and should not be approached.

The Sheriff’s Office advised the public to refrain from picking up hitchhikers and to report suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Anyone with information regarding Bowers’, or should you observe the suspect, do not approach him, and dial 911.
