Man Arrested for Shooting at an Occupied Residence, Found with Multiple Guns, Ammunition, and Drugs

Early Saturday morning, October 28th, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address near Arcata for the report of shots fired.

Deputies learned multiple shots were fired at an occupied residence when they arrived on scene and further investigation of the residence and found a window shot out and several bullet holes inside the interior walls and ceiling. No one was injured from the shooting.    

Jahria Zion

During the investigation, deputies were contacted by an additional reporting party who advised Jahria Zion was armed with a firearm and suffering from a possible mental health episode. Based upon information and evidence at the scene, it was determined that Jahria Zion was the person responsible for shooting at the occupied residence.  

Later that afternoon, at approximately 4:00pm, deputies learned Zion was in the Rio Dell area armed with a pistol. Zion was located by the Rio Dell Police Department and was taken into custody without incident.

A search warrant was served on Zion’s vehicle and deputies located three loaded semi-automatic rifles with high-capacity magazines and a 12 gauge shotgun. Several additional high-capacity magazines, approximately 45 grams of suspected cocaine, and numerous prepackaged Alprazolam pills were also found in Zion’s possession.

Zion was booked for assault with a semiautomatic firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a high-capacity magazine, altering firearm serial number, and illegally possessing an assault weapon.  

This case is still under investigation.
