Man Dies In Early Morning Stand-Off with Authorities and SWAT

Multiple agencies, including the Medford and Central Point Police Departments, assisted Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies who were dispatched to a 911 call for a domestic assault just before 2:30am, on Table Rock Road.

After initial investigation into the situation, it was learned that the suspect, later identified as 29 year old Dustin Michael Davis Jr., had prior assaults on the same reporting victim.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, Crisis Negotiators Team, after detectives were called out early Thursday morning for an armed, barricaded subject following a domestic assault and Table Rock Road was closed from Orr Drive to Gibbon Road for several hours. In an abundance of caution neighboring residences were evacuated and the public was asked to avoid the area while the situation was ongoing.

During the incident, shots were fired at deputies, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies worked through contingency plans to create an environment and opportunity for the suspect to give up and be arrested. SWAT and Crisis Negotiators made multiple notifications, and flash bang distraction devices were deployed.

Just before 11:30am, the suspect, 29 year old Dustin Michael Davis Jr., of Central Point, was reported as deceased from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. No lethal rounds were fired by law enforcement during the incident and SWAT and the Crisis Negotiators Team attempted to contact the suspect via numerous means to resolve the situation peacefully, however, the incident ended when the subject took his own life.

Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit will conclude the investigation and pass off their findings to the Jackson County District Attorneys office.
