Medical Event Leads to Crash

On Wednesday, May 29th, just after 6:30 pm, the Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2018 GMC Denali, operated by 72-year-old Dennis William Donnelly of Medford, was traveling northbound on Interstate 5 when he suffered a medical event. During the event, he drove into the back of a Commercial Motor Vehicle traveling in the same direction.

Donnelly was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the Commercial Motor Vehicle, 49-year-old Vasile Barsan of Tulalip, Washington, was not injured.

One lane of Interstate 5 northbound was closed for approximately 1.5 hours following the crash.

The Oregon State Police were assisted by Ashland Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
