Pre-Evacuation Advisory List

Familiarize yourself with local emergency plans. Know where to go and how to get there should you need to evacuate.

Make a wildfire emergency plan including an evacuation plan and a communication plan.

Many communities have text or email alerting systems for emergency notifications. To find out what alerts are available in your area, search the Internet with your town, city, or county name and the word “alerts.

Stay tuned to your phone alerts, TV, or radio, for weather updates, emergency instructions or evacuation orders.

Gather Essential Supplies: 

In the event that you are in an evacuation situation, you will need the following supplies when you leave your home; put all supplies together in a duffle bag or other large container in advance.

  • Flashlights with plenty of extra new batteries
  • Battery powered radio with extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Prescriptions, medications in their original bottle, plus copies of prescriptions
  • Eyeglasses (with a copy of the prescription)
  • Water (at least one-gallon person is recommended)
  • Foods that do not require refrigeration or cooking
  • Items that infants and the elderly household members may require
  • Medical equipment and devices, such as dentures, crutches, prostheses, walker
  • Change of clothes for each household member
  • Checkbook, cash, and credit cards
  • Map of the area

Gather Important Papers:

  • Driver’s license or personal identification
  • Social Security card
  • Proof of Residence (deed or lease)
  • Insurance policies
  • Birth and marriage certificates
  • Stocks, bonds, and other negotiable certificates
  • Wills, deeds, and copies of recent tax returns

Animals/Pets-Be Prepared:

  • Contact hotels and motels outside your immediate are to check policies on accepting pets.
  • Prepare a list of boarding facilities and veterinarians who could shelter animals in an emergency, include 24-hour phone numbers.
  • Make a plan for larger animals that may need to transported to be evacuated.
