Reports of Suspicious Subjects Leads to High Speed Chase and Two Arrests

At approximately noon, Thursday, March 2nd, multiple reports were received by the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office from Smith River residents regarding two suspicious individuals on Fred Haight drive.

Multiple agencies including Del Norte County Sheriff’s deputies, the Crescent City Police Department and the California Highway Patrol ultimately responded, and as first arriving deputies attempted to make contact with two subjects in a vehicle in the area, the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene in the vehicle.

During the pursuit, the driver, later identified as 25 year old Trevor Carter of Crescent City and his passenger, 24 year old Rose Mendoza of Crescent City, attempted to ram the vehicle into an occupied patrol vehicle that was blocking Fred Haight Drive, however, the Deputy was able to move the vehicle just prior to being struck.
