Routine Traffic Stop Yields 116 Pounds of Marijuana

At approximately 10:30am, Thursday morning, a Deputy with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Cave Junction, Oregon.

During the traffic stop, the vehicle in question stopped and the driver fled on foot while a passenger in the vehicle remained and was detained at the scene as Deputies checked the area for the driver who was not located.

After an investigation at the scene, approximately 116 pounds of marijuana was located inside the vehicle and the passenger, identified as Josue Ruiz-Atenogenes, was arrested and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Attempt to Deliver a Controlled Substance-Marijuana. 

The driver who fled remains unidentified and is described as an adult Hispanic male, approximately 5’5” tall and 145 pounds with black hair.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 541-474-5123.
