Several Shots Fired During Altercation Results in 3 People Shot and a Pipe Bomb

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of several shots fired on Travis Lane in Coos Bay just after 1:00pm, Monday afternoon, June 26th, and multiple law enforcement agencies immediately were dispatched and responded to the scene.  

Upon arrival of first responders, three individuals were located with gunshot wounds, activating a multi-agency investigation team. The investigation team, led by the Coos County District Attorney’s Office, learned that for reasons unknown, 55 year old Lane L. Klink, 55 year old Jeffrey S. Clement, and 45 year old Robert L. Peters walked to the Travis Lane address, where a verbal argument ensued with the residents of the home at the Travis Lane address.  

Three people were shot during the argument inside the Travis Lane address, Lane L. Klink, and the two residents of the Travis Lane address all sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to Bay Area Hospital.

It has been determined that both residents at the Travis Lane address, identified as 38 year old Nathan T. McNeill and 35 year old Heather S. Dewalt, fired weapons during the incident, however, the number of rounds fired, who shot who, the reasons behind the altercation, and the suspect determination are still under investigation.

A search warrant for the Travis Lane address was obtained by investigators, and during the search of the property, a pipe bomb was located. The Oregon State Police Bomb Squad was contacted and responded to the location to dispose of the ordnance.

Travis Lane address resident Nathan McNeill remains at Bay Area Hospital in fair condition, while Mr. Klink and Ms. Dewalt were transported to River Bend for surgery to repair broken bones from the altercation. All three individuals are expected to survive.

The incident remains under investigation.
