Storm Damage Keeps Coos-Curry Electric Co-op Busy

Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative has been busy fixing equipment after a series of strong winter storms surged over northern California and Southern Oregon.

On Friday, March 23rd, the Brookings and Gold Beach areas suffered a power outage during the last series of storms to pass through the southwestern Oregon coastal region. The outage affected neighborhoods from Pistol River to North Brookings. It was determined that the outage was caused by a problem with one of the two transmission lines that serve the area.

The power on the west side of 101 in the Fred Meyer’s area of Brookings was restored almost immediately, and the rest of Brookings came back on within the next hour. All power outages due to the transmission line failure from Brookings-Harbor to Pistol River were restored within a few hours and the event was over by just a little after 2:00 pm Friday afternoon.

Linemen from Brookings and Gold Beach made permanent repairs to the transmission line damage that caused a power outage affecting about 4,400 members last Friday. It is believed that a lightning strike damaged the insulator causing the conductor to fall onto the arm below.
