Two Arrested after Gunshots Exchanged Between Three Men

On Thursday evening, February 1st, Medford Police responded to 911 calls reporting shots fired with one caller reported that an unknown person was shooting at him as he fled the area just after 8:30pm.

Medford Police arrived at the Poplar Drive location within minutes of first reports, it was quickly determined to first responders that gunshots were exchanged between three men associated with a nearby apartment based on evidence at the scene and eyewitness statements.  

It was not immediately clear if anyone was actually hit in the gunfire exchange and at least one of the involved suspects was believed to have fled from the scene on foot.  

Medford Police detectives responded to the scene and took two subjects into custody, and an additional suspect, who has been identified, remains outstanding and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities believe that all three subjects involved have been associated in the past and that no injuries were sustained during the gunfire exchange.

38 year old Matthew Ryan Pierpoint, of Medford was arrested on charges of Parole Violation – Felony Strangulation/Domestic Violence, and 30 year old Devon James Wright of Medford was also arrested on charges including Parole Violation – Felon in Possession of a firearm.  

Both suspects were recently released from prison and at the conclusion of the investigation, it is anticipated that additional felony charges could be added.
