Two Arrested During Early Morning Attempted Garage Break In

In the early hours of Sunday morning, December 11th, a report was received by the Brookings Police Department 911 call center, that two men were attempting to break into a garage on Ransom St. in Brookings just before 3:00am in the morning.

Brookings Police Officers were on scene within minutes and observed light from flashlights inside the garage. Upon further inspection, it was observed that the side door of the garage was open, and that it had been kicked in.

Officers made K9 announcements before making verbal contact with one of the suspects. The first suspect was detained without further incident, however, Officers continued to make K9 announcements, receiving no reply. K9 officer Duke was then deployed, quickly locating the second suspect in the hull of a large fishing boat in the garage.

Still with no response, K9 Duke was put in position inside the large fishing boat in the garage where the suspect was quickly located behind a closed door deep inside the hull of the boat. After given verbal commands once again, the second suspect was detained without further incident.

Both suspects, who’s names have not been released, were placed under arrest and transported to the Curry County Jail on multiple counts including First Degree Burglary, First Degree Theft, and Possession of Burglary Tool or Theft Device. The investigation is ongoing.
