Two Azalea Football Players in Oregon All-State Game

Two local football players from Azalea Middle School, Gavin Mills, and Kallan Christiansen have been selected to participate in the first Annual Oregon All-State Game this Saturday, June 30th, at Sheldon High School in Eugene.

The Wild Coast Compass caught up with these two busy young men earlier in the week to see how they felt about being recognized and selected as a football All-Star in the state of Oregon.

We asked Azalea Football team MVP, #34 Gavin Mills how excited he was about the upcoming game, “I love football, It’s a great feeling to chosen, and to be able to play in this big of a game is pretty exciting” he said.

Defensive MVP #4 Kallen Christiansen was equally excited when asked what he thought of representing his school and Brookings, “its awesome to represent our town, and I think it’s going to be a really cool experience”.

Both young men also took the opportunity to thank Azalea football coach Mr. Thorson and their parents for letting them play football.

The All-State Game is more than just an All-Star Football Game. Not only do the athletes play the sport in which they excel, but they get to listen to dynamic guest speakers and do other fun team building activities.
This game is free to attend and helps bring awareness to foster kids throughout Oregon. If you want to donate a backpack to foster kids in Oregon please bring one to the games on Saturday, June 30th!

6th Grade: 9 am
7th Grade: noon
8th Grade: 3 pm
