Log Truck Suffers Mechanical Failure on Hwy. 101

Just after 9:30 am Tuesday morning June 26th, a logging truck suffered a serious mechanical failure while entering US Hwy. 101 from North Bank Chetco River Rd.

The truck suffered a failure of the trailer arm which secures the rear portion of the trailer to the frame of the front portion of the truck. The incident blocked both northbound lanes of Hwy. 101 for approximately 2 hours.

A second log truck with a self-loading boom arrived on the scene and first attempted to right the rear portion of the loaded log truck in an apparent attempt to reconnect it with the cab portion of the truck. However, the precarious positioning of the logs and the weight of the log load prevented this repair being completed.

Ultimately the entire load needed to be unloaded on the scene and reloaded onto another truck before the truck could be moved from the intersection and traffic could resume unimpeded.

No injuries were reported.
