Weather Related Accident Closes Hwy. 101

On December 20, 2017, at approximately 9:00 AM Oregon State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near milepost 252 north of Bandon, Oregon.

The preliminary investigation has determined that 2016 Toyota Scion was southbound on Highway 101 and lost control during a hail storm, traveling into the oncoming lane and colliding with a northbound 2010 Jeep Liberty. The operator of the Toyota was 25 year old Vanessa Goodwin from North Bend. The operator of the Jeep was 70 year old Everett Harty from Winston, OR.

Harty and his passenger, 65-year-old Jeanette Harty were transported to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay with non-life threatening injuries. Goodwin died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

The Oregon State Police was assisted by Bandon Police Department, North Bend Police Department, Coos County Sheriff’s office, Millington Fire, Green Acres Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation. Hail and ice from recent weather combined with speed are being considered as contributing factors for the crash.
