BHHS Varsity Football’s Kallen Christensen Selected Barron’s Home Furnishings Next ‘Star Student Athlete’

Local schools beginning to move into Winter sports programs, and another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

This weeks selection is senior running back/linebacker, #8, Kallen Christensen, a member of the Bruins varsity football team, chosen by head coach Shaun Bavaro for his leadership, versatility, and consistency for the Bruins this season.  

As a three sport varsity athlete, this weeks selection is a great example, excelling in all aspects of the ‘Star Student Athlete’ program showing leadership, competitiveness, and work ethic while balancing a 3.77 GPA.

“Kallen has played multiple positions for us,” coach Bavaro said. “and was a threat anytime he touched the football. His unique skill set of being able to run hard between the tackles and catch the ball out of the backfield, made him a versatile weapon offensively, and defensively he was one of the top tacklers for us every year.”

Scholastically Kallen has balanced his athletic participation carrying a 3.77 GPA in courses such as Medical Terminology, Body Science, Business Math, English IV, American Government and Civics as well as an Internship in Athletics designed to prepare him for career as an orthodontist. “After high school I intend to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints before I attend Snow College and Weber State moving on to dental and specialists schools to become an orthodontist.” Kallen told the Compass.   

“Kallen’s athleticism helped us in many ways over his football career, making him both a great team player for us, as well as an excellent team leader.” coach Bavaro said. “We will have our hands full trying to replace Kallen the athlete, but off the field he is an even a better person, and we are excited to follow whatever he chooses to do knowing that whatever that is, he will make the people around him better.”
