Curry County Sheriff’s Sno-Cat Needed for Remote Iron Mountain Wellness Check

The Curry County Search and Rescue Coordinator received a call from a concerned citizen Friday, March 24th, regarding the concerned citizen’s friend who lives in an RV up on Iron Mountain.

The concerned citizen stated that he normally goes up once a month to pick up his friend, take him to town for supplies and then take him back to his RV, however he became concerned when had not been heard from his friend for almost two months.

The concerned citizen said he had not been able to drive to his friend’s location due to the heavy snow and was worried that he did not have enough supplies to last him or could get down off the mountain if he needed to do so.

The Curry County Search and Rescue Coordinator and two Search and Rescue members, responded to the area with the Curry County Sheriff’s Sno-Cat.

After cutting out several large trees from the snow covered roadway, and traveling about ten miles in the snow, they reached the location where 53 year old  Duane Stainbrook was staying in his RV.

Stainbrook declined any assistance, saying he and his dog were fine and had enough supplies to last him until he could get back down the mountain. The Search and Rescue members gave Stainbrook some extra supplies they had with them and returned to Gold Beach.
