Driver Hospitalized After Truck Crashes into the Gasquet Market and Post Office Building

According to a Monday morning press release from the California Highway Patrol, very early Saturday morning, March 11th, Gasquet Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to a crash on Hwy. 199, in Gasquet, at Middle Fork Gasquet Rd.

Upon arrival, first responders identified the crash scene as a single Commercial Motor Vehicle semi truck that had crashed into the Gasquet Market and Post Office building.

The truck, ironically carrying mail from Medford Oregon, drifted onto the southbound shoulder of Hwy. 199, crashed into a Pacific Power Pole, and a fire hydrant before crashing into the Gasquet Market and Post Office building.

The driver of the truck, 38 year old Joshua Phillippi, who was determined to be sober at the time, was initially trapped in the wreckage, was extracted by emergency personnel and  transferred from the scene to Sutter Coast Hospital to be treated for major injuries.

Traffic was diverted from the intersection of Middle Fork Gasquet Rd, and Hwy. 199 for several hours as crews navigated the extensive damage and downed power pole.
