GBHS Football Coach Higgins Talks 2020/2021 Season, and Post Season Goals

As the fall Gold Beach football program finishes out their regular season, we talked with head coach Chris Higgins and asked him about his 2020/2021 season, and where they are now.

“I feel very blessed this year as a coach. I have a tremendous group of kids that I’ve been very close to for year and we have a wonderful group of parents that surround our kids and this team as well.” he told the Compass.

“This week we’re fighting the OSAA rankings for a first round home playoff game. If the dice roll correctly, hopefully that’s what we’ll get.” he told the Compass.  “If not then we are happy to take our chances on the road for round one, which is where we are as of now, and we haven’t lost once, playing away from home.

These kids play for each other and not just themselves, and I am lucky to have a great friend and coach by my side running our defense, another friend and coach running my defensive backs and wide receivers and another assistant, who’s been around for years helping coach us as coaches. We all bring different things to the table, and this year, all of us working together as a team has worked out very well for the group as a whole.

I never imagined us being where we are this year, but I can’t be more appreciative and thankful for our success so far. Fingers crossed on a deep playoff run, but we will continue to take it one game at a time and handle business the Panther way!!”

Tonight, Thursday, October 28th, Coach Higgins and his Panther football program will travel to Waldport for a very important game to decide play-off rankings, against the 4-3 Perrydale Pirates, at 7:00pm.
