Lady Bruins Getting Stronger

The Lady Bruins played host to the 1-1 Douglas Lady Trojans who made the trip from Winston Thursday night. The energy level again was high as the coach Shew’s Lady Bruins started off the first match. The Lady Bruins showed significant signs of growth as they used their hustle to keep the ball on the Douglas side of the net. Both teams had strong play at the net both offensively and defensively.

The Lady Bruins traded points with Douglas in the first match as Douglas struggled to distance themselves from the Lady Bruin attack. The lady Bruins fell in a close match that presented opportunities to the Lady Bruins who just could not capture a lead late.

In the second match the Lady Bruins fell behind Douglas 12-20 in what appeared to be Douglas establishing control of the match. But the Lady Bruins came together and closed the 8 point gap and took the lead. The Lady Trojans and the Lady Bruins again traded points until Douglas took the match in extra points 26-28.

The Lady Bruins are showing they have the skills to win these matches as they have fought to put themselves in positions to win. Skills and hustle can get you where you want to go, but at specific moments of any contest, focus and execution are vital, and the Lady Bruins are learning that the closer they get to success, falling just short in close hard fought matches hurts just a little more.

The Lady Bruins are close to putting it all together and they have been no easy win for any team this year. The Lady Bruins will take on the 2-1 St. Mary’s Lady Crusaders next Tuesday evening at Bruins Arena at 6:00pm.
