Woman Leads Deputies on Hwy. 101 High Speed Chase Before Crashing in Port Orford

Very early Saturday morning, January 27th, Coos County Sheriff’s deputy, patrolling Seven Devils near Bandon observed a suspicious black Cadillac sedan with no plates or identification tags, and occupied by a single female, sitting just outside Bandon Dunes Employee Housing at at 12:47.  

Not being a normal place to be parked at any time of the day or night, the Deputy attempted to contact the female. The woman drove away from the Deputy at a high rate of speed, avoiding contact. A traffic stop of the vehicle was then attempted, and the woman failed to yield initiating a pursuit of the black Cadillac southbound on U.S. Hwy 101.

The pursuit continued southbound on Hwy 101 to Port Orford after the Bandon Police attempted to deploy stop sticks just south of Bandon without success, before Port Orford Police again tried to deploy stop sticks.  

The vehicle’s driver, identified as 27 year old Clarissa M. Castro, ultimately avoided the stop sticks but crashed over an embankment in Port Orford on Oregon Street. Ms. Castro then fled on foot, and Sheriff’s Office K9 Cena tracked her for approximately 150 yards before Ms. Castro was located hiding in the beach grass.  

Ms. Castro was taken into custody and was released to the Ambulance for medical evaluation after she complained of injuries sustained from the crash.  

During the recovery of the vehicle, a fully loaded Glock 19 Pistol, a Stun Gun, 30 pills of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and a loaded syringe with Heroin were located in the vehicle.  

Ms. Castro had a valid warrant for her arrest and is being referred to the Coos County D.A.’s Office on the additional charges of Elude by Vehicle, Elude by foot, & Reckless Driving and is being charged additionally with Felon in possession of a firearm, Felon in possession of a restricted weapon and various drug charges.
